Rare or Sensitive Plants

Rare or sensitive native plants are not widely distributed across large areas and are specifically adapted to local environments. Foothill habitats contain some rare plant species that need special care to ensure that they will continue to exist. The Healthy Hills Initiative is working to increase awareness of three native forbs in particular: slickspot peppergrass (federally listed as a “Threatened Species”), Mulford’s milkvetch, and Aase’s onion.
